EHS, St. Anthony, T-town Nab Soccer Victories

Effingham High School defeated Mattoon by a 5-1 tally Tuesday to extend its record to 12-3 on the season.

"This was one of our strongest performances this season, showing how the team continues to grow and improve together," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "Xander Marler had a strong performance tonight in goal, making some great saves."

Maicol Sefton scored three goals while Camilo Aden and Edu Crespo tallied one goal each. All three had one assist each.

Xander Marler finished with seven saves in goal.

 

At Arthur

Effingham St. Anthony grabbed a 3-1 victory over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Tuesday.

Harrison Miller, a junior, tallied the first goal for the Bulldogs.

St. Anthony didn't score again in the opening half but came back in the second half to finish with two more. Michael Wright scored from a corner and five minutes later, Pierce Verdeyen finished out with the final goal.

"At the beginning of the game, Harrison Miller, a junior, took the ball past many defenders and scored in the first 30 seconds of the game," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "In the rest of the first half we had many great shots at goal.

"In the second half, Michael, a sophomore, scored a goal from a corner. Five minues later, Elijah, a junior, took the ball from our defensive half, passing several defenders all the way to the box where he was fouled. Pierce Verdeyen, a senior, took the penalty kick and scored with a well-placed shot to the lower right corner."

ALAH scored its goal in the second half.

"Maddy Hodge, a sophomore, had a great defensive game, with many steals and interceptions," finished Coach Reyes.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis celebrated Senior Night by blanking Newton, 2-0 Tuesday.

The first goal of the game was tapped n by Joe Niebrugge off a corner kick from Gavin Tegeler at the end of the first half.

The second goal was scored in the second half by Ethan Thoele off an assist from Ryder Vahling.

The Shoes are now 13-1 and will travel to Breese Mater Dei Satuday for both varsity and junior varsity games.
