The United States advanced to the Women's World Cup round of 16 after finishing as runners-up in Group E Tuesday.

The U.S. was held to a 0-0 tie against Portugal. Portugal almost pulled out the victory but Ana Capeta hit the post on a goal that would have sent Portugal on.

It's the first time the U.S. has been held scoreless in a World Cup match since 2015.

The United States will next meet the winner of Group G in Melbourne Sunday.

The Group G winner will be determined Wednesday. Members of the Group G field include Sweden, Italy, South Africa and Argentina although Sweden is looking to be the team to advance. The squad needs a point against Argentina, which stands at the bottom of the group.
