Blues Edge Bruins In Shootout
(Boston, MA) -- Derek Roy scored the winning goal in the shootout as the Blues edged the Bruins 3-2 at TD Garden. Roy and David Backes both scored in regulation for St. Louis, which has won four-of-five. Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves plus stopped three-of-four shootout attempts. Gregory Campbell and Carl Soderberg scored a goal each for the B's, who have earned at least a point in seven of their last eight games. Tuukka Rask stopped 24 shots but allowed two goals on four shootout attempts.
Blackhawks Topple Jets
(Winnipeg, Manitoba) -- Jonathan Toews recorded a goal and three assists to lead the Blackhawks to a 6-3 victory over the Jets at the MTS Centre. The Hawks came out strong and held a 12-2 shot advantage at the end of the first period. Both offenses exploded in the second with a combined three goals in 48 seconds and five overall in the period. Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa each added a goal and an assist, while Brandon Saad, Ben Smith and Patrick Sharp all scored to lift Chicago to 15-4-4. Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien each had a goal and an assist in the loss. The Jets fell to 10-11-3.
Predators Double Up Maple Leafs
(Toronto, Ontario) -- Matt Cullen had a goal and three assists to help the Predators double up the Maple Leafs, 4-2, at the Air Canada Centre. Craig Smith lit the lamp twice including one on the power play and Seth Jones add another power play goal. Nashville won its third straight game with Marek Mazanec turning away 24 shots. Peter Holland and Nazem Kadri each hit the back of the net in the loss. Jonathan Bernier allowed all four goals on 28 shots as Toronto had a two-game winning streak end.
Flyers Cruise Past Sabres
(Philadelphia, PA) -- Matt Read scored twice in a 1:40 span in the second period as the Flyers cruised to a 4-1 win over the Sabres at Wells Fargo Center. Vincent Lecavalier and Scott Hartnell both lit the lamp in the third period for the Flyers, who have won five of their last six games. Ray Emery denied 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the victory. Tyler Myers scored the lone goal in Buffalo's third straight loss. Ryan Miller surrendered three goals on 45 shots for the Sabres.
Red Wings Sneak Past Hurricanes
(Detroit, MI) -- The Red Wings used two goals in the third period to lift themselves to a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes at Joe Louis Arena. Niklas Kronwall scored the game-winning goal on the power play and Gustav Nyquist tallied the insurance goal. It was Nyquist's second goal of the game. Jonas Gustavsson stopped 24 shots as Detroit ended a seven-game losing streak. Five of those losses came in OT or a shootout. Brett Bellemore and Andrej Sekera lit the lamp for Carolina. Justin Peters allowed all four goals, but turned away 43 shots. The Hurricanes have dropped three straight.
Rangers Nip Stars
(Dallas, TX) -- Rick Nash scored his first goal of the season to help the Rangers pull out a 3-2 win over the Stars at American Airlines Center. Henrik Lundqvist stoned 41 shots, while Chris Kreider and John Moore each lit the lamp in the third period. New York evened up its record at 11-11-0. Stephane Robidas and Alex Chiasson both hit the back of the net in the loss. Kari Lehtonen allowed all three goals on 27 shots. Dallas is 11-8-2.
Avs Clip Coyotes In OT
(Glendale, AZ) -- Ryan O'Reilly scored the game-winning goal with 41.1-seconds left in overtime as the Avalanche clipped the Coyotes 4-3 at Jobing.com Arena. John Mitchell, Andre Benoit and Cody McLeod all scored in regulation for Colorado, which has won two in-a-row after a three-game skid. Semyon Varlamov made 41 saves in the victory. Michel Stone, Martin Hanzal and Antoine Vermette all lit the lamp for the 'Yotes, who have earned at least a point in five straight games and 10 of their last 11 overall. Mike Smith surrendered all four goals on 30 shots in defeat.
Oilers Cruise Past Panthers
(Edmonton, Alberta) -- Jordan Eberle scored twice as the Oilers cruised past the Panthers 4-1 in Edmonton. Sam Gagner and David Perron also lit the lamp and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tallied three assists for the Oilers, who have won a season-high three straight on the heels of a six-game skid. Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves in the victory. Scottie Upshall scored the lone goal for Florida, which saw its only winning streak of the year end at just two. Tim Thomas allowed three goals on 34 shots in defeat.
Devils Clip Kings In OT
(Los Angeles, CA) -- Jaromir Jagr scored the game-winning goal 2:30 into overtime to lift the Devils past the Kings 2-1 at STAPLES Center. Ryan Carter scored the other goal in the third period for New Jersey, which has won three straight. Cory Schneider kicked aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced in the victory. Justin Williams tied the game at one 1:05 after Carter gave the Devils a 1-0 lead in the third. Ben Scrivens stopped 13 shots for the Kings, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
Sharks Blast Bolts
(San Jose, CA) -- Tommy Wingels scored twice and Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists as the Sharks blasted the Lightning 5-1 at The Shark Tank. Brad Stuart and Brent Burns also lit the lamp for the Sharks, who have won four-of-five after a five-game skid. Antti Niemi stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced in the victory. Tyler Johnson scored the lone goal for the Bolts, who have dropped three in-a-row. Anders Lindback was charged with five goals on 36 shots in the setback.
