Islanders Buy Out DiPietro's Contract

(Uniondale, NY) -- The New York Islanders are cutting goaltender Rick DiPietro loose. "Newsday" reports the Isles will buy out the remainder of the former number-one draft pick's contract. The 31-year-old will be placed on waivers today according to the report. DiPietro was the top overall pick in 2000 and has recorded a 130-136-8 record with 28 overtime losses over his career. He was signed to a 15-year, $67-million deal in the summer of 2006.
