Effingham County Lightning Fared Well at 2023 State Summer Games

The Effingham County Lightning Track and Field Team were among those competing last weekend at the State Special Olympics Summer Games at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal.

A number of local athletes fared well at the Games. Here's a recap:

Beth Braundmeier - 4th place in the 200m Run

Kraig Dahnke - 4th place in Shot Put and still waiting on results for RLJ  
 
Adam Gharst - 3rd place (Bronze) in the 400m Run and 4th Place in the 800m Run
 
Tyler Ludwig - 1st place (Gold) in the 400m Run and 4th place in the RLJ
 
Sarah Prewitt - 2nd place (Silver) in the Softball Throw and 6th place in the 100m Walk
 
Caleb Scott - 3rd place (Bronze) in the 200m Run
 
Nicholas Stewart - 3rd place (Bronze) in the 100m Run and 3rd place (Bronze) in the RLJ
 
Christian Walsh - 2nd place (Silver) in the Softball Throw
 
Macey Williamson - 3rd place (Bronze) in the Mini Javelin
 
Rachel Zakutansky - 2nd place (Silver) in the Mini Javelin and 5th place in the 100m Run. Rachel was also one of four torch bearers at the State Games to help light the cauldron to signify the start of the Games.
 
The athletes for Bocce Ball are:
Jay Borries - 3rd place (Bronze) in the Male Singles Division
Megan Young - 2nd place (Silver) in the Female Singles Division
 
Tina Bean is the Coach for the Effingham County Lightning Track and Field Team.
