NCAA President Mark Emmert is stepping down after 12 years. NCAA Board of Governors Chairman John DeGioia announced the news Tuesday, saying Emmert will continue in the role until a new president is in place or until June 2023 at the latest, and said the decision was by mutual agreement.

Emmert has led the NCAA through the most transformative period in its more than 100-year history, including athletes now being allowed to have name, image and likeness (NIL) deals.
