Longtime UI Announcer Jim Turpin Dies

CHAMPAIGN -- Jim Turpin, who voiced football and men's basketball at the University of Illinois, died Sunday at the age of 90.

Turpin was the announcer for the Illini for 42 years and retired in 2002. He was the radio host on WDWS and also served as vice president and general manager at WDWS and WHMS.

Turpin turned 90 on February 26 and celebrated with his family and friends. Family members were by his side when he died Sunday morning.
