IHSA Schools Approve All Seven Proposals On Membership Ballot

Illinois High School Association (IHSA) member schools approved all seven amendment proposals that appeared on the all-school ballot during the annual by-law referendum process that ended December 13, 2021.

Here is a summary of the proposals and the vote totals. (The numbers in parentheses indicate the total of yes, no, and no opinion votes. For an amendment to pass, yes votes must outnumber no votes.)

Proposal 1 (passed 270-127-74): Modify the language regarding at-large Board of Directors positions so that no more than two (2) may be from the same Board Division.

Proposal 3 (passed 278-130-64): Add language regarding the limits of participating under an assumed name to include names on legal documents or those which students use in school or social situations.

Proposal 8 (passed 341-76-54): Modify the football season limitation to permit all levels of football to begin contests on Thursday of Week 8.

Proposal 9 (passed 411-76-54): Modify the practice requirement before competing in a football contest to 10 days instead of 12 days for students returning from military service.

Proposal 10 (passed 407-30-35): Bring the fall practice requirement for competition out of Board Policy and into the by-laws along with an adjustment for a reduced number of practice days for students returning from military service.

Proposal 11 (passed 259-38-175): Adjust the 1st contest date in Girls Swimming to Friday of Week 7 instead of Monday of Week 8.

Proposal 13 (passed 350-17-105): Expand the match limitation in Girls Wrestling from 35 to 45 matches in any one season prior to the IHSA series.  (Effective 30 days after passing).
