Centralia Was the Destination for Area Disc Golfers Last Weekend

Centralia was the destination for area disc golfers over the past weekend.

The Van Man Discs SoIL Tour #5, the SoIL Showdown, was played Saturday and Sunday. Most divisions competed on Saturday, while an Open Division event took place on Sunday.

On Saturday, Bob Feldhake finished second in the Recreational Division, losing in a playoff after finishing +1 in regulation with rounds of 69 and 63 for a 132 total. Andrew "Butter" Miller finished fifth in Recreational at +9 with rounds of 78 and 62 for 140.

Marvin Lindsay finished 12th in Novice Division with rounds of 96 and 76 for 173, +42. 

On Sunday, three local disc golfers competed in the Open Division at Centralia. Alex Schimmelpfenning finished fifth at -10, with rounds of 67-61=128. Mark Jones finished sixth at -9 with rounds of 62-67=129. Joseph Garland finished ninth at -6 with rounds of 69-63=132. 

There was also Advanced Division competition on Sunday. 

Cole Mintert finished second, one shot off the lead, at -3, with rounds 67-68-135. Andy Burgholzer finished fourth at +2, with rounds of 72-68=140. 

Most area disc golfers will be in Decatur this weekend for the Forsyth Decatur Open. First round action is today in the three-day event.
