Ray Hanna Notches Three Wins At Jasper Co. Fair

NEWTON, IL (June 22, 2021) -- Altamont trainer Ray Hanna notched three wins in two days of harness racing at the 150th Jasper County Fair, where local and area horses dominated cards which took place on Sunday and Monday afternoons. 

Pretty Iris got things started for Hanna with a victory on Sunday, capturing a division of the Illinois Topline Stakes for pacers age three and older in 2:03, before first-time starters Tucked Away and Late Odds each scored wins on Monday in the Topline two-year-old trot and pace, respectively, in 2:16 and 2:06.4. Matt Avenatti of Chrisman drove all three winners for Hanna and finished with four wins total at the meet. 

In other action, Spoken Fur won for the first time in three starts, capturing the Illinois Big Ten Colt Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Sunday by five lengths for owner Dean Debolt of Iuka and trainer-driver Darla (Martin) Lohman of Effingham in 2:07.1. Also on Sunday, Hot To Trot Sparky ran his record to four wins in as many starts for owners Chuck and Cary Doehring of Brownstown, taking the Big Ten Stakes for freshman trotting colts and geldings in 2:12. 

On Monday’s program, Kandi’s Fortune won the Big Ten Stakes for three-year-old pacers in 2:04.1 for owners Brian and Kandi Herzog of Beecher City and trainer-driver Freddie Patton Jr. The filly won for the first time this season after notching five wins in 2020. 

Rocking Retirement also reached the winner’s circle at the Jasper County Fair, taking a division of Sunday’s Maiden Pace for owner-trainer-driver Harold Finn Jr. of Newton in 2:02.2. The win snapped a 22-race winless streak for Rocking Retirement, who was making his first start since August of last year. 

The Illinois county fair harness racing tour continues this week with Wednesday twilight programs at the Greene County Fair in Carrollton and the Henry County Fair at Cambridge.
