Area Disc Golfers in Flora and Pana Over Weekend

Area disc golfers split between tournaments in Pana and Flora this past weekend.

Several DG players headed for the 3rd Annual Rose City Open in Pana on Saturday.

Gary Welton of Effingham finished second in the Amateur Masters +40 Division, finishing -2 with rounds of 56-56=112.

Ben Ruholl of Effingham finished seventh in the Intermediate Division, with a +1 score and rounds of 58-57=115.

In the Recreational Division, Bob Feldhake of Dieterich finished tied for fourth at -5 with rounds of 53-56=109. Paul Stice and Andrew "Butter" Miller, both of Effingham, tied for 11th at +1 115, Stice with rounds of 59-56, and Miller with rounds of 60-55.

Several other local DG players traveled to Flora for the Over the Hill Open with the Flora Rotary Club Saturday. Jonathan Hill, who often plays locally, served as Tournament Director.

In the Advanced Division, Hadley Majors of Effingham won with a -11, shooting 62-65=127. 

Cole Mintert of Mattoon won the Intermediate Division, finishing -16 with rounds of 63-59=122. It was Mintert's second win in a month. 

In the Recreational Division, Ben Keller of Effingham finished regulation tied for first at -11 with rounds of 63-64=127, but lost in a playoff. 

In Novice Division, Kyle Miller of Stewardson posted a victory with a +9, going 73-74=147.

Two other players who often compete in the Effingham EDGE Sunday afternoon league did well, as Marty Ellison won the Amateur Masters 40+ Division with a -8, shooting 69-61=130, while Danny Herrin finished second at -6, shooting 68-64=132. 

One other local player went quite a bit farther afield over the weekend. Mark Jones of Effingham traveled to the Discmania Combine in Tennessee on Saturday, finishing tied for 8th place at +3 with rounds of 62-62=124.
