New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard is set to become the first transgender Olympic athlete after qualifying for this summer’s Tokyo Games, ‘Sports Illustrated’ reported Thursday.

The 43-year-old competed in men’s weightlifting until she transitioned in 2012. The IOC in 2015 said transgender women would be allowed to compete in the Olympics if their testosterone levels were kept below a certain level for at least 12 months before their first competition.
