Jones Wins Sunday in Kentucky; Five Other Area DG Players Compete Saturday in Indiana

Mark Jones of Effingham picked up his fourth win of the 2021 disc golf season Sunday.

Jones shot -13 to win the Advanced Division of Basket Case #1 at Atkinson Park in Henderson, Kentucky, posting a one-shot win.

Jones was steady on the day, posting a six-under 51 in the first round, then following that with a seven-under 50 in the second round for a -13 101 score. Jones had 15 birdies as opposed to just two bogeys, one each round. He was tied for second, one shot back, at the end of the first round.

On Saturday, five other local disc golfers headed to Mooresville, Indiana for the Mooresville Mash. The tournament is part of a series of charity events being played throughout the month.

In the Advanced Division, Joe Garland of Effingham tied for second at five-under 58 in the one-round, 21-hole event. Garland picked up nine birdies. He was two-under through four holes, then went four-over over the next three holes, but regrouped and went seven-under with no bogeys over the last 14 holes.

Also in the Advanced Division, Hadley Majors of Effingham finished eighth at one-under 62, recording six birdies.

In the Recreational Division, Cole Mintert of Mattoon finished in a tie for fourth place at one-over, picking up six birdies.

Also in Recreational, Ben Ruholl of Effingham finished tied for seventh at two-over, including four birdies.

Ben Keller of Effingham tied for 15th in Recreational, going five-over with two birdies. 

It was a tightly-bunched field in Recreational, with Keller just eight shots off the lead.
