Andrew Althoff and his partner Ethan Jones will be heading to the Bassmaster Collegiate Fishing Nationals this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Harris Chains Lakes in Leesburg, Florida representing McKendree College.

The pair qualified earlier in the spring by winning the regional at Smith Lake in Alabama.

Althoff was a senior in the spring at McKendree. During the 2019-20 school year, he and his partner posted three top-five performances in tournament competition. He was third at the McKendree Vandalia Invitational, won the 2020 Carhartt Bassmaster College Series, was 72nd at FLW Central Conference Qualifier and won the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series.

Along the way the duo helped McKendree College to its second straight Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) School of the Year championship. The Bearcats grabbed the title in June and won by 1,000 points.

The school moved into first place after the Texas Lunker Challenge, FLW National Championship and the Bassmaster Tour event. They picked up 1,700 points with fourth and 28th place finishes at the challenge. They collected 930 points for an eighth place finish at the FLW National Championship. And, Althoff and Jones were responsible for 750 points after their first place finish at the Bassmaster Tour Event.

Althoff, a 2016 graduate of Neoga High School, and his partner will be among the elite fishermen Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They will fish Thursday and Friday and if they're high enough in the standings will return to fish Saturday.

If the duo would win the championship, they can fish the Bassmaster Classic against the leading pro fishermen.
