Rangers Take Alexis Lafreniere First Pick In NHL Draft

The New York Rangers took forward Alexis Lafreniere with the first pick in the National Hockey League draft Tuesday night, the event held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, with Lafreniere reacting from home with his family around him.

The L.A. Kings took center Quinton Byfield with the second pick, and the Ottawa Senators chose forward Tim Stuetzle with the third, ahead of the rest of the first round. The draft will conclude today with the second through seventh rounds.

 

League Season  Aims To Start January 1

National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday night that the league is aiming to start the new season on January 1.

Bettman has said the NHL hopes each team will be able to play a full 82 games. Last season, which was shut down for months because of the pandemic, ended on September 28 when the Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup over the Dallas Stars.
