UFC Fighter McGregor Announces Retirement

UFC fighter Conor McGregor announced his retirement Sunday for the third time in four years.

 

The 31-year-old former two-division champ tweeted a photo of him and his mother captioned: “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been!”

But AP called retirements a “time-honored device for gathering attention and increased bargaining power in combat sports.”

 

Mayer Announces Positive Coronavirus Test

Junior lightweight fighter Mikaela Mayer announced Sunday that she’d tested positive for the coronavirus, which means she won’t fight in the co-main event of Las Vegas’ first major boxing card since the start of the pandemic Tuesday night. Mayer was to fight Helen Joseph in the Top Rank show.
