Iran’s only female Olympic medalist, Taekwondo athlete Kimia Alizadeh, posted a letter on Instagram Saturday saying that she's defected and describing herself as “one of the millions of oppressed women in Iran.” Iran's INSA news agency reported she'd gone to the Netherlands.

The 21-year-old, who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, criticized having to wear a hijab headscarf and accused officials in Iran of sexism and mistreatment, writing, “Whatever they said, I wore. Every sentence they ordered, I repeated.”
