Area Swimmers Compete In Sectional

URBANA -- Several swimmers from around the area competed in the girls Swimming & Diving Sectional at Urbana High School Saturday.

Effingham St. Anthony's Jules Harden captured two second place finishes. She finished with a time of 55.19 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle and with a time of 59.15 seconds in the 100 yard butterfly.

Neoga High School's Nikki Lee captured second place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.55 minutes.

St. Anthony's Alexandria Ciorna captured a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.59 minutes while Neoga's Lee was in fourth in 1:02.24. Effingham's Laurel Hirtzel took 27th in 1:14.84.

Effingham High School's Ellie Waymoth nabbed fourth place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.55 seconds. She also competed in the 100 yard breaststroke where she took 14th in 1:19.11

St. Anthony's Ciorna competed in the 200 yard IM where she finished fifth in 2:22.52. Paige Brown nabbed sixth in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:46.36 for the Bulldogs and the 200 yard freestyle in 2:08.55.

Teutopolis High School's Elise Passalacqua claimed ninth in the 100 yard breastroke in 1:17.12 and was 13th in the 200 yard IM in 2:32.64. 

Effingham's Laurel Hirtzel finished 18th in the 50 yard freestyle in 30.04.

Champaign Centennial won the team title with 209 points followed by Urbana University 200, Champaign Central 150.5, Danville 124.5, Mahomet-Seymour 100, Monticello 83.5, Sullivan 68, St. Anthony 66, Charleston 47, Salem 43, Olney 40, Urbana 40, Clinton 26, Mount Vernon 26, Neoga 24, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 24, Catlin Salt Fork 13.5, Mount Zion 12, Effingham 11, Champaign St. Thomas More 10, Marshall 8, Forsyth Decatur Christian 6, Fairfield 5, Teutopolis 4 and Mattoon 3.

The Effingham St. Anthony swim team finished well in the IHSA Sectionals. Juls Harden took second in the 100 butterfly and the 100 free, Alex Ciorna took fifth in the 200 IM and third in the 100 backstroke and Paige Brown finished sixth in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Effingham's Ellie Waymoth finished fourth in the 50 yard freestyle.
