NHL free agency got underway Monday.

Artemi Panarin left the Columbus Blue Jackets for the New York Rangers, while the Jackets also lost goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to the Florida Panthers.

Forward Gustav Nyquist signed a four-year contract with Columbus worth $22 million.

The Colorado Avalanche were busy as they signed free-agent forwards Joonas Donskoi and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and re-signed forward Colin Wilson, while sending Tyson Barrie, forward Alex Kerfoot and a sixth-round pick to the Maple Leafs for forward Nazem Kadri, defenseman Calle Rosen and a third-rounder.

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Wayne Simmonds to a one-year, $5-million contract.

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent goaltender Mike Smith.

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed goaltender Curtis McElhinney to a two-year deal.

The Calgary Flames signed goaltender Cam Talbot to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million.

The San Jose Sharks re-signed Timo Meier to a four-year, $24 million contract, but lost captain Joe Pavelski to the Dallas Stars in a three-year deal. The Stars also signed veteran Corey Perry to a one-year contract.

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed defenseman Luke Schenn to a one-year deal.

The Detroit Red Wings signed goalie Calvin Pickard to two year contract.
