Area Swimmers Compete in Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony, Effingham, Neoga and Newton swimmers competed in the Champaign Girls Swimming Sectional Saturday.

Champaign Centennial won the team title with 189 points followed by Urbana University 179, Champaign Central 170, Sullivan 169, Danville 129.5, Olney 107, St. Anthony 101, Decatur St. Teresa 72, Mahomet-Seymour 55, Charleston 43, Mattoon 27, Salem 26.5, Neoga 24, Newton 19, Urbana 16, Fairfield 16, Bismarck-Benning-Rossville 10, Fairfield 8, Clinton 8, Centralia 7, Effnigham 6, Marshall 4, Champaign St. Thomas More 2 and Wayne City 1.

The St. Anthony 200 medley relay team of Annika Koester, Alexandra Ciorna, Jules Harden and Paige Brown finished fourth with a time of 2:01.15.

Harden captured third in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:00.11 and fourth in the 50 yard freestyle in 25.53. Effingham's Ellie Waymoth was ninth in the 50 yard freestyle in 27.71.

Ciorna finished fifth in the 200 yard IM for the Bulldogs in 2:24.05

St. Anthony's Annika Koester took 10th in the 200 yard freestyle with at ime of 2:07.92 while teammate Paige Brown finished 13th in 2:09.95.

Newton's Emma Pitcher was fifth in the 100 yard freestyle in 57.77. Effingham's Laurel Hirtzel finished 27th in 1:12.73.

Neoga's Nikki Lee took third in the 100 yard freestyle in 5:25.31 while St. Anthony's Brown finished seventh in 5:37.71.

The team of Harden, Ciorna, Koester and Brown took fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:44.95.

Neoga's Lee finished third in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.38 followed by Ciorna sixth in 1:04.28 and Koester seventh in 1:04.81.

Effingham's Hirtzel was 23rd in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:22.18.

Newton's Pitcher finished sixth in the100 yard breaststroke in 1:11.68 while Effingham's Waymoth was 11th in 1:18.10.

Only the first place finishers advanced to the State Swim Meet at Evanston Township this Friday and Saturday.
