Blackhawks Double Up Blues
(Chicago, IL) -- Jeremy Morin tallied a goal and an assist as the Blackhawks doubled up the Blues 4-2 at the United Center. Patrick Sharp, Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith also lit the lamp for the 'Hawks, who have won three straight after a three-game skid. Corey Crawford stopped 21 shots in the victory. Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Sobotka both scored for St. Louis, lost its second straight. Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 34 shots in defeat.
Panthers Sink Stars
(Sunrise, FL) -- Sean Bergenheim scored with under five minutes to go as the Panthers shot by the Stars 3-2 at the BB&T Center. Scottie Upshall and Brandon Pirri scored in the second to tie the game at two for Florida, which snapped a five-game slide. Roberto Luongo made 35 saves in net for the victors. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin each scored for Dallas, which is still a point up on Phoenix for the final Wild Card spot out West. Kari Lehtonen turned away 21 attempts in the setback.
Blue Jackets Blank Islanders
(Columbus, OH) -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves for his fifth shutout of the season and ninth of his career as the Blue Jackets blanked the Islanders 4-0 at Nationwide Arena. Boone Jenner and Jack Johnson scored first-period goals, while Mark Letestu and Ryan Murray both lit the lamp in the second for the Blue Jackets, who have alternated wins and losses over their last eight games. Jenner and Letestu also had an assist in the victory. Anders Nilsson allowed all four goals on 33 shots for New York, which had its seven-game point streak snapped.
Flyers Use Big Second To Down Sabres
(Philadelphia, PA) -- Brayden Schenn scored twice to help the Flyers to a 5-2 win over the Sabres at Wells Fargo Center. Zac Rinaldo and Vincent Lecavalier bookended a Schenn goal in the second period after Matt Read struck in the first for Philadelphia. Steve Mason stopped 17 shots in goal and Mark Streit had three assists for the Flyers. Philadelphia ended a four-game slide and remains two points up on Columbus for third in the Metropolitan Division. Cody Hodgson and Mike Weber found the back of the net for Buffalo in the third period. Nathan Lieuwen turned away 32 shots in defeat as the Sabres lost their seventh in eight games.
Penguins Edge Avalanche In Shootout
(Denver, CO) -- Jussi Jokinen scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Penguins edged the Avalanche 3-2 at the Pepsi Center. Brandon Sutter scored twice in the second period for Pittsburgh, which has won four-of-six. Marc-Andre Fleury made 39 saves plus stopped all three shootout attempts in the victory. Ryan O'Reilly and Patrick Bordeleau both scored third period goals for the Avs, who had a six-game winning streak snapped. Bordeleau's game-tying tally came with 3:13 left in regulation. Semyon Varlamov denied 30 shots in the setback.
Oilers Drop Ducks
(Edmonton, Alberta) -- Taylor Hall, David Perron and Justin Schultz all scored in the second period to lift the Oilers to a 4-2 win over the Ducks in Alberta. Jordan Eberle also lit the lamp in the third for Edmonton, which has won two straight. Viktor Fasth stopped 34 shots in the win against his former team. Jakob Silfverberg and Corey Perry both netted goals for Anaheim, which moved a point up on San Jose for the top spot in the Pacific Division. Jonas Hiller turned aside 24 shots in defeat.
