 3rd Annual 1872 Celebration of the Courthouse and Civil War Era Grand Ball

Tickets are now available for the October 13, 2018, third annual Celebration of the Courthouse and Civil War Era Grand Ball at the Effingham County Museum.   The Museum will maintain its regular opening hour of 10:00 a.m. then will have a special historic presentation by Mr. Fred Johnson at 1:00 in the afternoon on the second floor of the historic courthouse when he will describe the history of the famous song, The Battle Hymn of the Republic.  This event is free and open to the public.

The evening Music and Grand Ball is a ticketed   affair designed as a fund raiser for the Museum.  Doors on the second floor will open at 6:15 with Civil War Era Music by the FACE Orchestra from 6:30-7:00.  After that, Larry Lappin will present a vocal solo, “Hail Columbia,” followed by Scott and Peggy Whitney, portraying President and Mrs. U.S. Grant.  The Ball will begin at 7:30 and continue until 10:00 p.m.  Period dress is welcome, but not required.  Those clothed in period dress will be the only participants in the opening dance rounds, afterwhich others will be invited to join them.  Period refreshments will be served during the evening.  Cost for the Grand Ball tickets is $30 per person.  Only 50 tickets are available.  Leave a message at 217.540.8655
