EHS Boys, Girls Claim Golf Wins, Area Roundup

Effingham High School hosted Vandalia in a boys golf meet Tuesday and claimed a 151-198 victory. Three Hearts finished in the 30-stroke range.

Jackson Wendling led the way with a 36 while Callaway Smith tallied a 37 and Sean Sandifer a 38. The other counting score was Jake Linders with a 40. Non-counting scores were Brandon Dahnke 53 and Reed Schafer 59.

"The kids played really well," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Jackson played great hitting eight of nine greens in regulation making nine pars. Callaway continued to play super for a freshman and Sean had his best nine-hole match score. Jake shot 40 with two ob and did a much better job of keeping his round together. Hopefully we can take this confidence into the weekend at Mattoon."

Vandalia was led by Jake Bowen 45, Zach Schaal 47, Levi Cox 49 and Alec Schroeder 57.

Exhibition scores for the Hearts were Michael Woltman 57, Matt Linders 58 and Dustin Gurley 75.

EHS is back in action Friday at the Mattoon Invitational at Meadowview.

 

At Effingham Country Club

St. Anthony played host to a four-team girls meet at the Effingham Country Club. Effingham claimed the win with a 188 followed by St. Anthony 193 and Paris 265. Mount Zion had only three players.

Medalist was Mount Zion's Ashley Miller with a 36. Effingham's Morgan Wilson was next with a 40. Also scoring for the Hearts were Alex Brummer 46, Hope Collier 49 and Kaylee Tonn 53. Non-counting was Madison Weis 55.

St. Anthony scores were Kylay Burton 47, Abbie Schmidt 47, Abby Brown 49, Madison Bushue 50 and Mariah Bushue 50.

Scoring for Paris were Sarah Powers 62, Meredith Rhoads 65, Jessica Goddard 68, Brianna Kammer 70 and Sydney Asbury 74.

Other scores for Mount Zion were Liz Bird 52 and Jessica Ames 57.

 

At Shelbyville

The Effingham St. Anthony junior varsity boys team finished third in a triangular meet at Deer Trail Golf Course in Shelbyville Tuesday.

Shelbyville won with an 80 followed by Okaw Valley 184 and St. Anthony JV 193. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Nate Schmidt 44, Gus Koester 49, Mitchell Sager 50 and Niko Dust 50. Shelbyville's Tyler Schanks was medalist with a 41.

At Greenville

Greenville hosted Teutopolis and Hillsboro and captured a boys golf victory at the Greenville Country Club Tuesday.

Greenville scored 162 with Mike Wernle medalist with a 35. Teutopolis took second with a 172 and Hillsboro was third with a 208.

Scoring for T-town were Christian Deters 42, Chad Zerrusen 43, Kyle Brumleve 43 and Evan Schlink 44. The Shoes are now 5-4 overall.
