St. Anthony, EHS Advance To Sectionals In Girls Golf

Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the girls golf regional Thursday. Members of the team are, left to right, Mia Schwing, Addie Krouse, Sydney Kibler, Brooklyn Phillips, Nora Trupiano, and Gianna Frisbie. 

Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham placed second and third respectively in the Class 1A St. Anthony Girls Golf Regional Thursday.

Salem won the sectional title with a 344 total followed by St. Anthony 352, Effingham 379, Teutopolis 420, Vandalia 464, Oblong 478, Ramsey 521, Sandoval 531 and Pana 537.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals, not members of qualifying teams, advance to the Taylorville Sectional Monday at Lakeshore Golf Course.

St. Anthony's Addie Krouse, a junior, was medalist with a 75. She was four strokes ahead of second place Alyssa Paul of Salem.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Brooklyn Phillips, a freshman, sixth with 90, senior Sydney Kibler eighth with 92 and freshman Nora Trupiano ninth with 95. Others competing for the Bulldogs were freshman Gianna Frisbie 14th with 97 and junior Mia Schwing 17th with 100.

Big news of the day for the Bulldogs, along with advancing, was Schwing making a hole-in-one on No. 2.

"I am so proud of the girls and all their hard work this far," said St. Anthony Coach Morgan Briggerman. "Addie was medalist with a plus three 75. Mia had a hole-in-one. Brooklyn finished with a 90 for sixth place. We're looking forward to sectionals on Monday."

Effingham finished third and advances. Senior Elena NIebrugge captured fifth place with an 88, sophomores Ella Tuman 11th with 95 and Natalie Armstrong 12th with 96 and junior Grace Harper 16th with 100. Junior Mya Harvey finished 18th with 100 and sophomore Makenna Mayhood ended in 20th place with a 101.

Teutopolis finished just out of advancing as a team in fourth place but will be sending three golfers on to the sectional. The Woodnen Shoes were led by sophomores Halle Bushue seventh with a 91, Brileigh Bloemer 15th with 99, Olivia Wermert 26th with 113 and Sophia Martin 30th with a 117. Non-counters were freshman Brooke thoele 32nd with 119 and junior HIldi Niemerg 49th with 137.

Bushue, Bloemer and Wermert all advance as individuals  along with North Clay's Kennedy Jones, a sophomore, who finished 21st with 104.

Other individuals advancing were Coree Keagy (Ramsey), Abby Tate (Vandalia), Abby Rich (Robinson), Sophia McNealy (Vandalia), Daylen Beckes (Oblong) and Dakira Brown (Vandalia).

The area players head on to sectional competition where the top three teams and top 10 individuals, not members of qualifying teams, will head to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7 at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

St. Anthony's Addie Krouse was medalist for the regional.

 

Class 1A Moweaqua Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had one golfer competing in the Macon Meridian Regional Thursday.

Kaylin Saunders, a sophomore, finished with a 122 total.

Sullivan won the team championship with 365 followed by Charleston 403, Tuscola 405, Mount Zion 417, Decatur St. Teresa 456, Okaw Valley 460, Villa Grove 487, Macon Meridian 487, Taylorville 506 and Arcola 512.

Sullivan, Charleston and Tuscola advanced as teams. 

Advancing as individuals were Kate Miller (St. Teresa), Peyton Graves (Mount Zion), Aubrey Wilson (Paris), Ella Schweighart (Villa Grove), Grabrielle Daniels (Mount Zion), Ana Kanemaru (Mount Zion), Brylee Baker (Okaw Valley), Sammy Milam (Paris), Avery Kyburs (Mount Zion) and Logan Lillard (Villa Grove).

Sullivan's Shaelyn Ellis, a junior, was medalist with an 87.

Those advancing will head to the Class 1A Taylorville Sectional Monday.
