St. Anthony Girls Win Sectional, Advance To State

AUBURN -- The Effingham St. Anthony High School girls golf team claimed the sectional championship crown Monday!

The Bulldogs fired a 323 team total to win the Class 1A Auburn Sectional and will now head to the State Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

St. Anthony was 51 strokes better than second place Charleston. Quincy Notre Dame finished third at 375 and those two teams also advance to the State Meet.

Leading the Bulldogs were Ellie Wegman with a 79, Nina Hakman and Lauren Schwing with an 81 each and Addie Krouse added an 82 to round out the scoring. Non-counting scores were a 104 by Maddy Brummer and a 113 By Allison Geen.

"We placed four players in the top seven earning medals," said St. Anthony Coach Randy Blake. "Ellie placed second, Nina and Lauren tied for fourth and Addie finished fifth."

Medalist for the sectional was Addie Dobson, a senior from Jacksonville Routt, with a 72 and she advanced to State. Other individuals advancing are Catalina Easley (Athens) with an 80, Kaitlyn Coombes (Paris) with an 85, Ainsley Winters (Mahomet-Seymour) with an 86, Brooke Erhard (Champaign St. Thomas More) with an 87, Isabel Tom (Rochester) with an 86, Grace Rector (Waverly) with a 90, Bailie Krause (Mason City Illini Central) with a 90, Shelby Seiler (Auburn) with a 90 and Kiley Torres (Rochester) with a 90.

Effingham High School had three players competing but none advanced. Competing were Marah Kirk who shot a 93, Ella NIebrugge with a 95 and Elena Niebrugge 106.
