Effingham, St. Anthony in Action Thursday

St. Anthony captured top honors at a four-school tournament at Iron Horse Golf Course in Tuscola Thursday.

In the boys event, St. Anthony's JV squad's total of 165 finished well ahead of three varsity squads; Salt Fork 200, Villa Grove 204, and Tuscola 219.

St. Anthony freshman Joey Trupiano was medalist with a 36. Other counters were Ethan Karolewicz 42, Aidan Tegeler 43, and Charlie Wegman 44. Ryan Schmidt shot a 48 and Patrick Ciorna finished with a 60.

In the girls event, St. Anthony's total of 172 was well ahead of Tuscola's 221 and Villa Grove's 273. 

Again, St. Anthony had the medalist, Ellie Wegman with a 38. Other counters for the Bulldogs: Nina Hakman 40, Addie Krouse 45, and Maddie Brummer 49. Allison Geen shot a 52, and Mia Schwing finished with a 63.

Effingham's boys competed in a three-team meet at Charleston Country Club Thursday.

The results were Charleston 163, Mahomet-Seymour 179, and Effingham 185.

Jett Volpi led the way for Effingham with a 43, one shot better than Ethan Ritz's 44. David Splechter shot a 48, and both Nick Burgess and Joe Matteson had a 50. Colby Haynes shot a 56.

Charleston's Josh Will was medalist with a 40.

Effingham is 2-4 on the fall.

North Clay's golf squad competed Thursday at Oak Glen Golf Course in Robinson. Riley Poe shot a 57, Enoch McCrary had a 60, Hayden Pittman shot a 65, and Andy Sapp finished with a 71.
