Sullivan Scores Twice In The Final Quarter To Beat Newton

SULLIVAN -- Newton High School fell to Sullivan in the season opening football game Friday evening.

The Eagles took a 6-0 first quarter lead when Wade Wickham took a handoff from Max Meinhart who went in from 11 yards out.

Newton moved ahead 12-0 in the second quarter as Lain Burgner handed off the ball to No. 9 who carried it into the endzone for a 26 yard gain. Sullivan then scored a touchdown and the score stood at 12-7 at halftime. 

Newton tallied 15 points in the third quarter to hold a 27-19 lead going into the final period. Max Meinhart dropped back to the 13 and threw a pass completion. Austin Moore ran the ball from the five and carried it into the end zone. No. 9 then ran the ball from the two for the point after.

Sullivan tallied again on a 26 yard run.

Newton scored as Max Meinhart handed off the ball to Meyer Tarr who ran it from the 18 into the end zone. Gage Reynolds kicked the extra point and the Eagles were up 27-19 going into the final period.

But the Redskins scored two more touchdowns in the final quarter to pull out the victory.
