Kicker Adam Vinatieri announced Wednesday that he’s retiring after 24 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots, during which he became the NFL’s career scoring leader.

The 48-year-old hasn’t played since December 2019 and later had surgery on his left knee, with his rehab complicated by the pandemic, and he didn’t play last season.

Vinatieri scored 2,673 points and made 599 field goals in his career, both records, and made 29 game-winning kicks, including three that won Super Bowl titles for New England.
