Game of the Season Friday as Hearts Host Mt. Zion

What should be the game of the season in Apollo Conference football is set for Friday night at Klosterman Field. The Effingham Flaming Hearts will play host to the Mt. Zion Braves. 

Game time is 7pm. It'll be Senior Night for the Hearts. Hear the contest on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

Both teams enter the contest at 3-0 on the season. Each team lost their game scheduled against Taylorville due to COVID-19 affecting the Tornadoes team; Mt. Zion two weeks ago and Effingham last Friday night.

Mt. Zion won the opener over Mattoon 21-7, then outscored Mahomet-Seymour 44-34. After the week off due to the Taylorville cancellation, the Braves came back to clobber Lincoln 65-6. 

Effingham opened its season with a 21-7 victory at Mahomet-Seymour, then beat Charleston 34-14. In Week 3, Effingham won at Mattoon 28-0, then didn't get to play last week against Taylorville.

In this week's AP football poll, Effingham is rated #4 in Class 4A, while Mt. Zion is ranked #8. The Hearts are rated third in Class 4A in the Coaches Poll, while Mt. Zion did not make the Top 10.

The Hearts will recognize their football and cheerleading seniors before the game at 6:30pm. The Pep Band will recognize its seniors at halftime.
