Former New Orleans Saints kicker Tom Dempsey, who was born without toes on his right kicking foot and famously made a 63-yard field goal in 1970, has died from complications of the coronavirus. He was 73.

Dempsey suffered from Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and lived at a New Orleans senior living center hit hard by the virus. Dempsey's 63-yard field goal as the Saints came from behind to beat the Detroit Lions 19-17 in the final seconds was the longest kick in NFL history for 28 years.
