Keller Wins Cross Country Regional, Area Girls Qualifiers

Several area teams and individuals advanced to sectional action after competing in cross country regionals Saturday.


Class 1A Robinson  Regional

Effingham St. Anthony's Anna Sophia Keller, a freshman, captured the individual championship of the Class 1A Robinson Regional Saturday. She finished with a time of 17:12.

The Bulldogs took second as a team with 72 points following the team champion, Olney with 70. Mount Carmel finished third with 100 followed by Cumberland 105, Newton 117, Lawrenceville 138, Marshall 163, Teutopolis 167 and Robinson 168.

The top seven teams and top five individuals not members of qualifying teams advance to the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional this coming Saturday. Advancing teams were Olney, St. Anthony, Mount Carmel, Cumberland, Newton, Lawrenceville and Marshall. Inidviduals were Jordie File (Greenville) 20:01, Lauren Erickson (Robinson) 20:14, Megan Fritzsche (Greenville) 20:38, Emma Repking (Teutopolis) 21:07 and Stephanie Hawkins (Robinson) 21:14.

Individuals for St. Anthony were: Keller, Carson Fonner, sixth, 20:04, Elizabeth Falconburg, 12th, 20:42, Mary Clarie Wegman, 27th, 21:51, Rachel Wortman, 36th, 22:36 and Allison Spraul, 70th, 28:06.

Individuals for Cumberland were: Leah Hutchison, 10th, 20:23, Liv Ross, 16th, 20:58, Logan Peters, 17th, 21:02, Leah Peters, 33rd, 22:11,  Lilly Ames, 44th, 23:26 and Lindsey Ingram, 50th, 23:53.

Individuals for Newton were: Lexie Davidson, third, 19:46, Veronica Ochs, 23rd, 21:25, Morgan Green, 26th, 21:40, Madison Kinder, 39th, 22:59, Maddie Green, 40th, 23:04, Michaela McClure, 49th, 23:49 and Mary Ochs, 56th, 24:25.

Class 1A Shelbyville Regional

Neoga competed in the Class 1A Shelbyville Regional and finished eighth. Winning was Decatur St. Teresa 15, Litchfield 81, Carlinville 104, Heyworth 122, Mount Zion 125, Clinton 165, Sullivan 170, Neoga 219, Gillespie 233, Staunton 246, Moweaqua Central A&M 253 and Maroa-Forsyth 273. St. Teresa, Litchfield, Carlinville, Heyworth, Mount Zion, Clinton and Sullivan advance as teams to the Class 1A Decatur St. Teresa Sectional this coming Saturday.

Winning the meet was St. Teresa's Rachel Devereux in 17:35.89. Earning their way individually were Shelbyville's Molly Yockey, ninth, 19:21, Morgan Powers, 12th, 19:44 and Maggy Yockey, 17th, 20:29, Gillespie's Tateum Rosentreter, 22nd, 20:43 and Argenta-Oreana's Cassie Meyer, 24th, 20:44.

Class 2A Champaign Centennial Regional

Effingham's Jenna Bingham was the lone representative advancing to sectional action from the Class 2A Champaign Centennial Regional.

Bingham captured seventh place with a time of 19:03. Winning was Mattoon's Megan Shaffer in 18:11.

Mahomet-Seymour won the team championship with 48 points followed by Mattoon 51, Taylorville 105, Champaign Central 108, Charleston 123, Danville 139, Champaign Centennial 181, Effingham 204 and Urbana 229. Mahomet-Seymour, Mattoon, Taylorville, Champaign Central, Charleston and Danville advanced as teams.

Advancing as individuals along with Bingham were Champaign Centennial's Rebecca Kaefring, ninth, 19:18, Urbana's Fiona Murro, 27th, 21:06; Centennial's Gabrielle Greaser, 37th, 22:09 and Centennial's Brooke Miller, 41st, 22:53.

Also finishing for the Hearts were: Shayna Phillips, 44th, 23:02, Madi Woelfer 46th, 23:05, Kelly Keitel, 55th, 25:23, Jaclyn Steppe, 58th, 25:38, Jade Spencer 60th, 26:20 and McKenzie Crowell, 61st, 26:22.

The sectional will be held at Decatur MacArthur's Hickory Point Golf Course this coming Saturday at noon.
