EHS Downs Newton , St. A Second, Fourth At Robinson

Effingham hosted Newton at the Ballard Nature Center in both a boys and a girls cross country meet Tuesday.

The Hearts won the girls meet 26-29. Newton's Lexie Donaldson claimed the top spot with a time of 20:55. But the Hearts took the next two spots as Jenna Bingham finished second in 21:32 and Shayna Phillips was third in 22:07. Also scoring were Haley Fatheree fifth in 22:41, Jamie Swan seventh in 24:08 and Jaclyn Steppe ninth in 24:26.

Newton's other scorers included Madi Kinder fourth in 22:31, Morgan Green sixth in 22:57, Maddie Green eighth in 24:15 and Veronica Ochs 10th in 24:50.

In the boys meet, the Hearts won 17-46. Leighton Lark took first for the Hearts in 18:05 followed by Jacob Donaldson second in 18:33 and Josh McCammon third in 19:13. Kennan Mahaffey finished fifth in 19:24 and Gary Damron sixth in 19:52.

Top scorer for Newton was Trenton Gonzalez who took fourth in 19:23.

At Robinson

Effingham St. Anthony finished second in the girls meet and fourth in a boys five-team meet Tuesday.

In the girls meet, Olney took first with 47 followed by St. Anthony 56, Lawrenceville 57, Teutopolis 71 and Robinson 94.

The Bulldogs' Carson Fonner finished second in 21:03. Also scoring were Elizabeth Falconburg sixth in 21:51, Sarah Wortman ninth in 22:14 and Rachel Wohltman 14th in 23:10.

T-town's Megan Weichman took seventh in 21:54 and Emma Repking was fiftht in 22:01.

In the boys meet, Olney won with 40 followed by Robionson 48, Teutopolis 50, St. Anthony 113 and Lawrenceville 119.

St. Anthony's Andrew Gardewine won the meet with a time of 17:11. T-town's Lucas Probst took third in 17:44 and Zach Mette was eighth in 18:04.
