Lake Land College fell to Kirkwood Community College 90-69 at the NJCAA Division II Women's College Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

The Lakers held a 19-18 opening quarter lead but a 13-0 run by Kirkwood to start the second quarter was the downfall. Kirkwood led 46-32 at halftime and went on for the victory.

Kirkwood won the battle on the boards by a 40-28 count and outscored the Lakers 47-26 in the paint.

Kaylee Niebrugge, a Teutopolis graduate, led the Lakers with 18 points while Audri Spencer and Katleyn Littleton scored 17 each. Neoga graduate Sydney Richards scored four points and had eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Niebrugge had three rebounds and three assists. Another T-town graduate Isabella Hardiek also got in the game and missed a field goal attempt.

In other games, CCBC Essex won over Pima 80-74, Johnson County downed N. Central Missouri 55-43, Lincoln Land beat Union 76-73 in overtime, Rock Valley won over Mid-Michigan 78-54 and Morton claimed an 87-72 victory over Harcum.

Lake Land will now meet Harcum at 2 p.m. Thursday in a consolation round game.

Parkland College will take on Pima at 1 p.m. today, also in consolation play. Local members of the team include Effingham graduate Lucy Fearday and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City graduate Gracie Heckert.
