Altamont Falls To Webber Township In Regional Title Game

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School never got in the rhythm and ended up seeing its season come to a close at its own Class 1A Boys Basketball Regional Friday evening.

Webber Township (Bluford) took the opening quarter lead and held the lead at the end of the next four quarters for a 57-45 victory and the regional championship.

Nikkos Ulm was the leader for the Trojans. He opened the quarter with two baskets and two free throws for six points and Webber Township took a 15-9 opening quarter lead.

Aden McManaway kept the Indians close with five points in the quarter on a three-pointer and two free throws.

Both teams scored 13 points in the second period and Webber Township held a 28-22 halftime lead. The Trojans connected on three trifectas in the second period
Alec Jahraus hit a three-pointer for the Indians while Eli Miller and Kaidyn Miller had four each.

E. Miller went on an eight point run in the third quarter for the Indians but Webber Township held a slight 11-10 edge to lead 37-32. Ulm scored seven points for the Trojans.

Then in the final period, Webber Township continued on with a 20-13 run. Nathaniel Marlow came to life for the Trojans with three baskets and four of four at the free throw line for 10 points while Ulm and Damian Fleener added five each.

E. Miller scored six more points and Kaden Davis hit a three-pointer for the Indians but they couldn't get on track and fell.

Ulm led Webber Township with 22 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of four at the line. Marlow chipped in with 17.

Altamont, playing without Kade Milleville due to sickness, was led by E. Miller with 20 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of two at the line. McManaway added nine points and K. Miller eight.

Webber Township advances to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional Tuesday where it will face Arcola at 6 p.m. Arcola won the Bethany Okaw Valley Regional over St. Anthony 57-52.

The other two teams in the sectional include Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and Tuscola. Centralia CORL won the Edwards County (Albion) Regional by downing Red HIll (Bridgeport) 75-44. Tuscola enters the field after claiming the Casey-Westfield Regional with a 53-39 victory over host Casey-Westfield.

Those two teams meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The winners then advance to the championship game Friday at 6 p.m.
