CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School's season came to a close Monday evening at the Class 3A Charleston Boys Basketball Regional.

The Trojans edged out to a 13-7 opening quarter lead on the Hearts but then put the game away with a 23-11 second period run to lead 36-18 at halftime.

Charleston came back to take a 19-9 third quarter lead and finished out with a 9-7 final period.

The Trojans were led by Tyler Oakley with 23 points, Luke Bonnsetter with 17 and Adam Rudibaugh with 10.

The Hearts did not have a player reach double figures. Rylan Pals led the way with seven points on three field goals and one of two at the line. Cole Phillips chipped in with six.

That was the lone game played in the 3A Charleston Regional. The Trojans advance to face Mount Vernon at 6 p.m. Wednesday while Richland County and Mattoon will square off at 7:30 p.m. The winners then advance to the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Neoga High School's season came to a close with a 52-44 loss to Martinsville Monday evening.

In the first game at Tuscola, the homestanders won over Broadlands Heritage, 86-27.

Casey-Westfield played host to Hume Shiloh and was a 70-38 winner.

No. 13 Chrisman upset No. 8 Villa Grove, 79-74.

In Wednesay play, Tuscola meets Martinsville at 6 p.m. followed by Casey-Westfield against Chrisman at 7:30. The winners meet at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

 

Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Three games were contested at this regional Monday evening.

Edwards County edged Cisne, 61-58 while Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran was a 52-30 winner over Wayne City. Red Hill (Bridgeport) downed Grayville, 64-62.

Top-seeded Dieterich will now meet Edwards County Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran against Red Hill at 7:30.

The winners from Wednesday evening will meet Friday for the regional championship at 7 p.m.

 

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Cumberland's season came to a close at the Vandalia Regional Monday evening.

The Pirates fell to Flora, 61-23.

In game one, Robinson defeated Vandalia, 62-48.

Wednesday's games feature top-seeded Lawrenceville against Robinson at 6 p.m. followed by Fairfield and Flora meeting at 7:30.

The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 2A Newton Regional

Marshall and Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville came out winners in the Newton Regional Monday evening.

Marshall won over Paris, 53-34 while OPH downed Mount Carmel, 70-59.

Marshall will now meet No. 2 Teutopolis at 6 p.m. Wednesday while No. 3 Newton will take on Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville at 7:30.

The winners then meet Friday at 7 p.m. for the regional championship.
