Altamont, North Clay, SEB Win At Class 1A Altamont Regional

ALTAMONT -- Altamont played host to Mulberry Grove in its own Class 1A Altamont Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening and handed the Aces a 78-39 loss.

The Indians ran off to a 20-7 opening quarter lead as Kaidyn Miller knocked in three baskets for six points and Eli Miller added five.

Altamont kept the pressure on with a 24-9 second period to lead 44-16 at halftime. Alec Jahraus scored one three-pointer in the opening quarter then nailed three more in the second period run. Kaden Davis added five points.

K. Miller took over again in the third quarter with eight points and Jahraus added five more.

Four players finished in double figures for the winners. K. Miller led with 18 points on nine field goals while Jahraus added 17 on six field goals, five from three-point range. E. Miller chipped in with 11 and Ben Roedl added 10.

North Clay (Louisville) played host to South Central in the second game of the Altamont Regional and was a 62-53 winner.

South Central ran out to a 23-14 opening quarter lead as Kage Hiestand scored eight points and Seth Bergmann seven. Max Magnus added five.

Mason Byers led the Cardinals with half of his team's 14 points on two baskets and three free throws.

Carder Walden took over the scoring duties for North Clay in the 16-8 second quarter run. Walden hit three from beyond the arc and a regular basket for 11 points. The Cardinals pulled within a point, 31-30.

North Clay then moved into a 48-38 third quarter lead behind an 18-7 run. Ethan Kuenstler scored seven and Byers six. 

South Central came back with a slight 15-14 final quarter edge but it wasn't enough as North Clay captured the victory.

Walden led the way for the winners wih 21 points on seven field goals, five from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Byers tallied 18 and Kunestler finished with 14. The Cardinals improved to 13-17.

South Central was led Westin Neilson and Bergmann with 14 points each. Neilson had four baskets, one a three-pointer and five of seven at the line. Bergmann had five field goals, two from three point range and two of four at the line. The Cougars end the season with a 15-16 record.

Game three went to Webber Township (Bluford) over Sandoval, 65-51.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then claimed game four over Patoka/Odin, 58-45.

Patoka/Odin edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead but St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 13-3 second period to lead 29-20 at halftime.

The Eagles then continued on with an 18-9 third quarter run to lead 47-29.

Cade Schaub led the way for SEB with 19 points on eight of 11 from the field that included three of five from three-point range. Adam Atwood chipped in with 14 points. The Eagles connected on 11 three-pointers in the contest led by Schaub and Mason with three each and Atwood with two.

Atwood led the way in rebounds with eight while Brody Mason had five. Schaub led in steals with four while Josiah Maxey added three. Mason and Collin Maxey had one block each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown improved to 22-9 on the season.

The regional continues Wednesday with Altamont and North Clay meeting at 6 p.m. followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against Webber Township at 7:30. The winners advance to the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.
