Both area teams claimed victories in opening round play of the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Girls Basketball Regional Saturday.

In the first contest, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Decatur Unity Christian, 47-27.

The Bobcats held a 13-5 opening quarter lead then went on a 21-8 second period tear to push the lead to 34-13 at halftime. Macee Rodman tallied five in the opening quarter and added eight more in the second period. Haley Doty knocked in two three-pointers in both quarters for 12 points at halftime.

In the third quarter, the scoring slowed down as CHBC had a 7-6 edge. Unity Christian had a final quarter 8-6 margin.

Leading the Bobcats were Rodman with 13 points on six field goals and one of two at the line and Doty with four three-pointers for 12. CHBC is now 18-13 on the season.

In the second game, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg easily handled Argenta-Oreana, 45-16. The Hatchets held a 30-6 halftime lead.

Eight players scored for WSS but none in double figures. Kendra Hayes and Ella Kinkelaar tallied nine each. Hayes hit four field goals, one a three-pointer, and Kinkelaar had two field goals and was five of six at the line. Ellie Wittenberg chipped in with eight points.

In tonight's games, CHBC faces top-ranked Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. followed by Windsor/Stew-Stras against No. 4 Moweaqua Central A&M at 7:30.

Class 1A Dieterich Regional

In opening round play of the Dieterich Regional, Neoga handed Cerro Gordo/Bement a 58-41 loss.

Neoga held a 15-11 first period lead and led 28-18 at halftime. Neoga then had a 30-23 second half run.

Haylee Campbell led Neoga with 22 ponts on eight field goals and six of 11 at the line. Allison Sampson added 15 points on five field goals, two from three-point range, and two of two at the line and Brynn Richards totaled 10.

Neoga improves to 17-14 on the season and will now face No. 2 seeded Altamont at 6 p.m. today.

Dieterich ran out to an 18-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 48-27 victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in the second contest.

Miley Britton gave the Maroons a push in the opening quarter, scoring nine of the team's 18 points.

Although the scoring slowed down in the second period, Dieterich still held a 23-9 halftime lead.

Dieterich then had a 17-5 third quarter run as six players scored to lead 40-14.

Britton was the lone Dieterich player in double figures with 16 on seven field goals, one a three-pointer, and one of four at the line. Brittney Niemerg tallied nine.

The Maroons will now meet No. 3 Decatur St. Teresa today at 7:30 p.m.

Class 1A Mount Olive Regional

Brownstown/St. Elmo captured the second game of the evening at the Mount Olive Regional over Bunker Hill, 57-24 Saturday.

The Bombers edged out to a 10-4 opening quarter lead as Lexi Seabaugh and Jayna Ireland scored four points each. They led 21-11 at halftime. Madi Miller contributed six points in the quarter and Seabaugh was three of four at the line.

Ireland then went on a third quarter run with 10 of her team's 15 points and BSE led 36-21.

Danika Ramsey did not score through the first three quarters but came through with 11 final quarter points on three trifectas and a regular basket.

Ireland finished with 18 to lead the Bombers. She hit eight field goals and was two of two at the line. Seabaugh added 12, Ramsey 11 and Miller 10.

In the first game of the Mount Olive Reigonal, the host squad defeated Dupo, 52-34. In the third contest, Maryville Christian won over Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran, 47-30.

Today's games feature Glen Carbon Father McGivney against Mount Olive at 6 p.m. followed by Brownstown/St. Elmo taking on Maryville Christian at 7:30.

Class 1A Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Regional

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a victory in opening round play of the CORL Regional Saturday.

The Cardinals defeated Ramsey Co-op, 52-32 and improved to 13-17 on the season.

In the opener, Centralia CORL won over Sandoval Co-op, 41-37.

Today's game features Okawville against CORL at 7 p.m.

South Central will meet North Clay at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional

Cumberland ran out to an early lead and went on to down Lawrenceville, 54-22 in Saturday regional action.

The Pirates held a 17-6 opening quarter lead as Paige Dittamore scored eight points. Shoemaker continued on with a three-pointer and three of four at the line in the second quarter for six while Jade Carr hit two three-pointers.

Four players scored in double digits for for the Pirates. Alyssa Dittamore hit four field goals and one of one at the line for 15 while P. Dittamore tallied 14, K. Shoemaker 12 and Carr 11.

In the other game, Marshall was a 59-28 winner over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville.

Today's contests will feature Cumberland against No. 2 seeded Mount Carmel at 6 p.m. followed by No. 3 Teutopolis taking on Marshall at 7:30.

Newton High School moved on in the Fairfield Regional by pounding Flora, 55-19 Saturday.

The Eagles ripped out to a 20-3 opening quarter lead and held the Wolves scoreless in the second quarter for a 37-3 halftime lead.

Camryn Martin led the way for Newton with 16 points on eight field goals. Lilly Kessler added 15 while Karasyn Martin had nine. Kessler led in rebounds with 10. Bennett led in assists with four. C. Martin had seven steals.

In the opening contest, Fairfield downed McLeansboro Hamilton County, 37-27.

Today's games features top-seeded Robinson against Fairfield at 6 p.m. followed by Newton taking on No. 4 Camri-White County at 7:30.
