Effingham St. Anthony took control early and captured a 77-40 win over North Clay (Louisville) in National Trail Conference high school girls basketball action Monday evening.

The Bulldogs went on to have a 32-19 second period to lead 50-25 at halftime.

Two players hit over 20 points for the Bulldogs while a third also reached double figures. Nancy Ruholl led the way with 29 points on 12 field goals, four of those three-pointers, and was one of two at the line. She also pulled down six rebounds, had five steals and six assists. She hit four of nine from three-point range.

Adysen Rios had a career high with 22 points on nine field goals and two of three at the free throw line. She also hit two of two beyond the arc. She finished with five assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Stacie Vonderheide chipped in with 16 points on eight field goals. She led in rebounds with seven and steals with five plus she had one blocked shot.

The Bulldogs finished the game with 28 rebounds, 20 assists, 20 steals and nine turnovers.

North Clay had one player in double figures. Miah Ballard led with 18 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and seven of nine at the line. She had a 12-point third quarter run.

Leah Wetherholt chipped in with nine points for the Cardinals.

St. Anthony will play its last regular season home game Thursday and will celebrate Senior Night. The Bulldogs host Brownstown/St. Elmo.

"We'll play a tough Brownstownn/St. Elmo team," said Coach Aaron Rios. "Come on out and root on senior Stacie Vonderheide and the sisterhood in their last regular season home game."

At Neoga

Grace Nelson had a 29 point game for Altamont as the visiting squad handed Neoga a 63-57 loss to clinch the National Trail Conference regular season title Monday evening.

Nelson had a big scoring third quarter with 10 of her team's 16 points and an eight-point final period. She hit 13 field goals and was one of two at the line.

Peyton Osteen tallied eight points in the opening quarter 21-11 run. She hit two three-pointers and a regular basket. Nelson put in seven and Kylie Osteen four.

Altamont held a 35-23 halftime lead.

Neoga played Altamont to a 16-16 third quarter tie and finished out with an 18-12 final period run. but couldn't make up that first half deficit. Brynn Richards  scored 10 points over three quarters then had a nine point final period.

Neoga's Haylee Campbell scored 10 of her team's 16 third quarter points. She finished with seven from the field and two of six at the line for 16. Neoga dropped to 15-12 on the season and is back in action at Dieterich Thursday.

Besides Nelson,  Altamont's P. Osteen finished with 13 points.

Altamont also won the junior varsity game, 40-35. Altamont isn't back in action until  Monday at Father McGivney.

At Brownstown

It was a close contest throughout before Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Brownstown/St. Elmo, 60-53 Monday evening.

The two teams played to a 14-14 opening quarter tie before the Bobcats edged ahead 29-25 at halftime. Macee Rodman scored five for the Bobcats in the second quarter while Koda Coleman and Madison Dawson provided four each.

Dayana Haslett kept the Bombers close with six points in the second period. Lexi Seabaugh had scored eight of her team's 14 points in the opening quarter.

BSE had a slight 17-16 third quarter edge to trail CHBC 45-42 going into the final period.

From there, CHBC regained control with a 15-11 run on two baskets by Ruby Stuckemeyer and four of four at the line by Rodman.

BSE almost caught up, hitting nine of 12 from the free throw line when Seabaugh connected on five of six.

Rodman finished with 18 points for the winners on five field goals and seven of nine at the line. Ines Saez-Ferrer tallied 11.

BSE was led by Seabaugh with 21 on five field goals and 11 of 17 at the line. Haslett chipped in with 14.

BSE claimed the junior varsity contest 45-27 while CHBC was a 21-2 winner in the freshman/sophomore game.

In the junior varsity game, BSE was led by Addie Sasse with 20, Danika Ramsey with 14 and Nadi Miller with 11. CHBC was led by Ellie Miller with 10.

CHBC will be back in action tonight at Sandoval.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had an easy time taking on Ramsey Monday evening and claiming a 44-19 victory.

The Hatchets ran out to a 15-1 opening quarter lead and led 28-5 at halftime.

Ella Kinkelaar and Samantha Hayes led the way for the winners with 13 points each. Kinkelaar hit five field goals and three of five at the line while Hayes connected on six field goals and was one of four at the line.

The Hatchets improved to 17-11 on the season.

At Pana

Newton improved to 16-10 on the season with a 57-40 victory over Pana Monday.

The Eagles edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead and led 22-18 at halftime.

Newton then had a 35-22 second half run.

Camryn Martin led the Eagles with 17 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of eight at the line. Also in double figures were Lilly Kessler with 14 and Elley Bennett with 13.

Newton won the junior varsity contest, 31-22. Claire Probst led the way with 10 points.

Newton will be back in action Thursday traveling to Casey-Westfield with a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis ran into a tough Breese Mater Dei squad and fell 51-44 Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 14-10 opening quarter lead. Chloe Probst scored seven points while Mollie Ruholl added a three-pointer.

The lead went to 33-18 at halftime for the Shoes. M. Ruholl had seven points while Malea Helmink tallied five and C. Probst added four.

But here came Mater Dei. The Knights had a 15-5 third quarter run as Maris Zurliene connected for six points and they pulled within 38-35.

Then in the final quarter, Mater Dei continued on with an 18-6 surge to pull out the seven-point victory. Zurliene hit two three-pointers and two free throws for eight.

Zurliene led the way for the Knights with16 points while Alyssa Koerkenmeier added 12 and Avery Trame 10.

Teutopolis was led by C. Probst with 13 points on six field goals and one of four at the line. M. Ruholl chipped in with 12.

M. Ruholl led in rebounds for the Shoes with six and C. Probst added five. Kelsey Niemerg led in steals with three. and blocks with three.

Robinson ran out to a 16-7 opening quarter lead and went on to hand Dieterich a 54-36 loss in a non-conference contest Monday evening.

The Maroons held a 24-11 halftime lead and led 36-20 going into the final quarter. Marissa Zane finished with 28 points for Robinson while Elizabeth Shea had 15 and Katelyn Jones 10.

Dieterich was led by Miley Britton with 15 points on seven field goals with one of those from three-point range.

Robinson also claimed the junior varisty game, 43-25. Leading Dieterich were Addison Miller with nine and Callie Faller with eight.

Cumberland held a 24-18 halftime lead and led 31-22 going into the final quarter.

But the bottom fell out as Tri-County rallied with a 17-5 final period to pull out a 44-36 victory Monday evening.

Katelyn Shoemaker was the lone Cumberland player in double digits with 17 by hitting four three-pointers, a regular basket and three free throws.
