Teutopolis Girls Advance At Highland Tourney, LIC Tournament Scores

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School put on a scoring exhibit in the first half in downing Belleville East, 61-35 at the 37th Annual Highland Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes ripped out to a 22-7 opening quarter lead as Mollie Ruholl connected on five baskets for 12 of the Shoes' 22 points. Ruholl hit three regular baskets and two three-pointers.

The lead went to 47-21 at halftime. Chloe Probst and Kelsey Niemerg took over the scoring duties. Probst hit four baskets and two free throws for 11 while Niemerg connected on three baskets and three free throws for nine.

The scoring slowed down in the third quarter as T-town had a 9-5 edge.

C. Probst led the way for T-town with eight field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of three at the line for 19 points. M. Ruholl finished with 14 and Niemerg added 10.

Malea Helmink led the Shoes in rebounds with five. M. Ruholl, Kelsey Niemerg and Allie Ruholl had one steal each. M. Ruholl had an assist.

In the other consolation bracket game, Collinsville edged Waterloo, 54-51.

Teutopolis will now face Collinsville at 6:30 p.m. today. In the other contests today, Alton meets Nashville at 8 p.m. in winner bracket play. In the consolation bracket, Bethalto Civic Memorial will take on Triad at 5 p.m.

In the other games Tuesday in winner bracket play, Breese Mater Dei defeated Taylorville, 55-42 while Breese Central won over Highland 48-44. Breese Mater Dei will take on Breese Central at 8 p.m. Thursday with the winner advancing to the championship contest and the loser playing for third.

At Lawrenceville

In Tuesday evening action at the Little Illini Conference Tournament, Mount Carmel defeated Richland County, 45-26 while Robinson won over Paris, 35-29.

Mount Carmel and Robinson will now meet for the championship at 7:30 p.m Thursday while Richland County and Paris meet for third at 6 p.m.

In tonight's games, Lawrenceville meets Marshall at 6 p.m. for seventh place. Newton will take on Casey-Westfield at 7:30 p.m. for the consolation championship.
