CARLYLE -- Carlyle High School handed South Central a boys non-conference basketball loss Wednesday evening, 44-21.

Carlyle held an 11-3 opening quarter lead as Matthew Guthrie tallied six points and Hayden Huels hit a three-pointer.

Jacob Ruscher took over with two three-pointers in the second quarter. South Central had one basket in the quarter by Jacob Smith.

The Cougars had two baskets, both three-pointers, in the third quarter as Max Magnus knocked in a pair of trifectas.

Carlyle held a 31-11 lead going into the final period.

South Central's Max Magnus scored five in the final quarter.

Magnus finished with 14 points to lead the Cougars. He connected on four three-pointers and a regular basket.
