St. Anthony Beats Robinson, EHS Falls To Olney

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony hit the road to Robinson and brought home a 65-38 non-conference boys high school basketball victory Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead as Brock Fearday scored seven points and Ryan Schmidt connected on a three-pointer.

The lead went to 32-21 at halftime. Collin Westendorf, who tallied a basket in the opening quarter, broke loose with two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven in the second period while Schmidt also was on a scoring run with three regular baskets and a free throw, also for seven.

After halftime, St. Anthony went on a 20-10 third quarter run to lead 52-31. Schmidt hit two more three-pointers and B. Fearday had two regular baskets and a three-pointer for seven.

Schmidt finished with 19 points to lead the way for the Bulldogs. Schmidt hit seven baskets, four from three-point range, and one of one at the line. B. Fearday tallied 16 and Westendorf added 12.

Robinson did not have a player in double figures.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony captured a 67-42 win. Four players hit double digits. Aiden Lauritzen led with 15 while Will Fearday added 13 and Keenan Griffith and Henry Brent scored 12 each.

At Effingham

Effingham ran into a hot-shooting Olney squad and fell, 52-26 in Tuesday evening action.

The Tigers ran out to a 20-7 opening quarter lead as Ian Winkler went on a tear for the Tigers. Winkler connected on two regular baskets and three trifectas for 13 of his team's points.

Olney held a 32-16 halftime lead. Cole Phillips scored four in the opening quarter for the Hearts and tacked on four more in the second period.

The Tigers went on a 14-5 third quarter run behind Rex Hallam's 11 points on an old-fashioned three-point play, a regular basket and two three-pointers.

Hallam led the way for Olney with 19 points while Winkler chipped in with 13. Olney hit nine three-pointers in the contest.

Effingham was led by Phillips with 10 points on five field goals.

"We didn't play poorly," said  EHS Coach Obie Farmer. "Olney shot 50 percent from three-point range and had more weapons than we could account for."
