Dieterich Crowned Boys Tourney Champion

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School won the championship of its own Dieterich Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

The Movin' Maroons defeated Sullivan, 57-45 in the title contest.

Dieterich ran out to an 18-6 opening quarter lead but Sullivan came back with a 20-9 second period to pull with 27-26 at halftime.

Caleb Gephart got the Maroons off in the right direction, scoring eight points in the opening quarter while Lucas Westendorf chipped in with six.

In the third quarter run, Dieterich's Tanner Will knocked in two three-pointers while Landen Keck and Westendorf added a basket and three free throws each for another big run, this one 20-4 and Dieterich led 47-30.

The Maroons' Gephart scored eight of the final 10 points in the contest.

Gephart finished with 23 on eight field goals, one from three-point range, and six of eight at the line. Westendorf added 11.

Arcola handed Grayville a 61-56 loss in the third place contest.

Red Hill (Bridgeport) defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 70-63 in double overtime to finish fifth.

Red Hill edged out to a 20-17 opeinng quarter lead but CHBC came back with a 17-14 run to knot the score at 34-34 at halftime. The Bobcats moved ahead by a one 43-42 going into the final period but Red Hill came back to tie the score at 56-56, sending the game into overtime. In the first overtime both teams scored four points each. Red Hill then won the contest with a10-3 second overtime.

Ash Ozzy led the winners with 27 points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Kaidyn Calame with 21 pohts on seven three-pointers. Clayton Wojcik finished with 16 and AJ Radloff with 15.

In the seventh place contest, South Central claimed a 57-41 win over Ramsey.

The Couglars edged out to a 17-15 opening quarter lead then pushed that to 29-21 at halftime and had a 28-20 second half.

Jacob Smith led the winners with 13 points while Westin Neilson added 10.

The All-Tournament Team was named. Members of the team include Ozzy Ash (Red HIll), Brett Bushue (Sullivan), Caleb Gephart (Dieterich), Landen Keck (Dieterich), Zach Leavens (Grayville), Jackson Miller (Arcola), Tanner Thomas (Arcola), Rowland Ty'zae (Grayville), Lucas Westendorf (Dieterich) and Clayton Wojcik (Cowdnen-Herrick-Beecher City).

The Cheerleading Award went to Dieterich.
