Wooden Shoes Hand EHS 67-27 Boys Basketball Loss

Teutopolis invaded Effingham High School's gym and handed the Hearts a 67-27 boys basketball loss Tuesday evening in a game heard on 979XFM.

The Wooden Shoes took no prisoners, stepping out to a 21-9 opening quarter lead. Garrett Gaddis nailed two three-pointers and was two of two at the line for eight points to lead T-town. Mitch Koester connected on a three-pointer and Joey Niebrugge and Austin Bloemer hit an old-fashioned three-point play each.

Cannon Bockhorn and KJ Kellams provided a three-pointer each for the Hearts.

Gaddis continued his hot scoring in the second period with three trifectas and a regular basket for 11 points. Meanwhile, Gavin Addis and Zac Niebrugge added a three-pointer each as the Shoes pushed their lead to 40-14 at halftime.

Although the scoring slowed down in the second half, T-town still had a 27-13 run to finish out the victory.

Only one player finished in double digits for the Shoes while 11 players scored in the contest. Gaddis connected on seven of 10 field goals that included five three-pointers and was three of three at the line for 22 points. Next in line was Joey Niebrugge with eight points.

T-town hit 46.1 percent from the field and 72.7 percent at the free throw line. They were 40.7 percent from three point range, finishing with 11. 

Effingham was led by KJ Kellams with nine points on three field goals, two from three-point range, and one of one at the line.

The Hearts hit 34.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent at the line. They were 37.5 percent from three-point range.

T-town improved to 6-2 on the season while Effingham dropped to 2-9.

Effingham returns to play Thursday hosting Charleston.

The Wooden Shoes are back in action Saturday at the Greenville Shootout facing Columbia at 4 p.m.

In junior varsity play, T-town claimed a 68-34 victory. The Shoes were led by three players in double figures. Jake Bushur led the way with 19 points while Gavin Addis had 12 and Landyn Thoele 11.

Efifngham was led by Brady McDaniel with 10.
