St. Michael Advances To Class 8-1A State Title Game, T-town Falls In 8-3A

CLINTON -- Sigel St. Michael claimed two victories to advance to the championship game of the Class 8-1A Girls State Basketball Tournament at Clinton Junior High School during the weekend.

In the first contest, St. Michael was a 44-25 winner over Ottawa Wallace. The Sharpshooters took a 17-7 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Brooklyn Will scored 17 points while Kaelyn Ordner added nine for the winners.

In other first round games, Carrollton St. John won over Donovan, 53-11; Royal Prairieview Ogden downed Normal Epiphany 20-15 and Washington St. Patrick defeated Peoria St. Jude 28-7.

In the second contest, St. Michael was a 30-24 winner over Carrollton St. John. The Sharpshooters  trailed 10-8 after the opening quarter but held St. John scoreless in the second period to lead 14-10 at halftime.

K. Ordner led the way with 11 points on five field goals and a free throw.

In the other contest, Washington St. Patrick defeated Royal Prairieview Ogden 38-13.

Carrollton St. John and Royal Prairieview Ogden will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for third place. St. Michael will take on Washington St. Patrick at 7:30 p.m. for the championship. Both teams are undefeated with St. Michael at 23-0 and St. Patrick at 25-0.

At Germantown Hills

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in opening round play of the Class 8-3A State Tournament at Germantown Hills Middle School.

Pittsfield Pikeland edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead on the Wooden Shoes. Pikeland held a 24-14 halftime lead. Pikeland then outscored the Shoes 18-5 in the second half.

T-town was led by Ella Willenborg with 13 points. The Shoes ended the season with an 18-7 record.

In other first round games, Germantown Hills won over Washington 35-28, Litchfield downed Monticello 30-8 and Channahon won over Beecher 31-18.

In the semifinals, Germantown Hills defeated Litchfield 31-18 while Pittsfield Pikeland won over Channahon 40-13.

In Thursday action, Litchfield faces Channahon at 6 p.m. for third place while Germantown HIlls and PIttsfield Pikeland square off at 7:30 p.m. for the championship.
