Effingham Junior High School played host to Champaign Edison Saturday in boys basketball and split victories.

Champaign Edison was a 51-14 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Edison zipped out to a 21-4 opening quarter lead.

Joel  Flack led the Mustangs with six points.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham captured a 50-46 win in overtime. Effingham ran out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead but Eidson fought back with a 15-12 second period to pull within 27-19 at halftime.

Both teams tallied 10 points in the third quarter and Edison outscored the Mustangs 14-6 in the fourth period to knot the score at 43-43, sending the contest into overtime.

In the overtime period, Jenner Pals hit a regular basket and a three-pointer while Carson Fox scored a basket and the Mustangs pulled out the win.

Pals finished with 23 points, connecting on six field goals, three from three-point range, and was eight of 10 at the line. Fox finished with 21 points on nine field goals and three of four at the line. The Mustangs connected on 13 of 16 free throws while Edison hit only two of nine.

Effingham improved to 9-4 on the season while handing Edison it's first loss. The squad dropped to 9-1.
