Effingham Sacred Heart downed Windsor twice in boys junior high basketball Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade contest, 37-29. Windsor edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead but Sacred Heart came back with a 10-5 second period and never looked back.

Gabe Traub led the way for Sacred Heart with 26 points.

Windsor was led by Hartman with 19.

In the eighth-grade contest, Sacred Heart was a 49-36 winner. The Shamrocks held a 21-14 halftime lead and had an 18-8 third period surge.

Three players hit double figures for Sacred Heart. Owen Schuette tallied 12 while Freddie Jansen added 11 and Nash Wernsing 10.

Windsor was led by McCray with 21 and Owen with 10.

Sacred Heart is back in action Thursday at South Central.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony improved to 5-0 in seventh-grade action with a 51-13 victory over Casey-Westfield Tuesday.

The Bullpups ran out to a 12-3 opening quarter lead and led 24-6 at halftime.

Blake Verdeyen led the way for the Bullpups with 21 points while Sebastian Looman tallied nine.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 54-14 winner. The Bullpups took charge with an 11-0 opening quarter lead and had a 28-2 second half.

Cooper Sehy and Johnny Gannaway tallied 11 points each while Camden Bloemer added nine.

The Bullpups improved to 2-1.

At Effingham

Effingham and Mount Zion split victories in Tuesday evening action.

Mount Zion claimed the seventh-grade contest, 45-20. Mount Zion ripped out to a 13-0 opening quarter lead and had a 27-11 second half.

Cameron Moon led the way for Effingham with six points. EJHS dropped to 0-4.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham pulled out a 44-41 win. The two teams were tied at 8-8 after the opening quarter before Mount Zion moved ahead 20-13 at halftime.

Effingham then came back with a 19-7 third quarter to lead 32-27 and held off Mount Zion for the win.

Carson Fox and Jenner Pals scored 11 points each for the Mustangs who improve to 3-1.

North Clay (Louisville) handed Altamont two losses in Tuesday evening competition.

North Clay pounded out a 58-8 victory in the seventh-grade game. North Clay held a 32-5 halftime lead and had a 26-3 second half.

Frost led the way for the winners with 20 points.

Altamont was led by Aiden Merrick with eight.

In eighth-grade play, North Clay led 32-12 at halftime and went on for a 63-24 win.

North Clay held a 32-12 halftime lead. Four players finished in double figures. Probst led the way with 18 points while Repking added 12, Adair 11 and Ballard 10.

Altamont was led by Durbin with nine points.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Stewardson-Strasburg each claimed a victory Tuesday evening.

CHBC was a 39-19 winner in seventh-grade action. Stew-Stras took a 10-7 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back to lead 14-12 at halftime. CHBC then had a 25-7 second half.

Pope led the way with 13 points while Calame added nine for the winners.

Stew-Stras was led by Weston Friese with six points. The team fell to 0-2 in the National Trail Conference, 2-3 overall.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras was a 56-28 winner, taking a 27-17 halftime lead then tallying a 21-1 third quarter.

Eli Jones led the way with 17 points while Mason Manhart added 14. Stew-Stras is now 2-0 in the NTC and 2-2 overall.

CHBC was led by Barnes and Rauch with six points each.

Teutopolis captured two victories over Flora in Tuesday evening play.

The Wooden Shoes moved into a 12-3 opening quarter lead and went on for a 32-21 victory.

Kale Goeckner scored 18 points to lead the Shoes.

In eighth-grade action, T-town stepped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead and led 36-10 at halftime and had a 33-3 second half.

Tyson Brooks scored 10 points while Jake Probst and Eric Weidner added nine each.

South Central handed Neoga two losses in Tuesday evening competition.

South Central was a 51-14 winner in seventh-grade play.

Strobl had eight points for Neoga while Finney added six. The team dropped to 1-3.

In eighth-grade play, South Central tallied a 12-7 halftime lead then had a 21-15 second half for the 33-24 win.

Colton Cartright tallied 13 for South Central while Brock Sigrist added 12.

Neoga was led by Ballinger with nine.

Dieterich defeated Martinsville in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Tuesday.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest, 27-22. Dieterich led 14-11 at halftime but the score was knotted at 20-20 after the third quarter. Dieterich then had a 7-2 final period run as H. Goeckner scored four of his 12 points in the period. R. McQueen added eight points.
