ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the St. Elmo/Brownstown Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Bullpups beat Ramsey by a 69-8 count. St. Anthony held a 24-0 opening quarter lead and led 36-2 at halftime.

Ten players scored in the contest. Verdeyen led the way for the Bullpups with 22 points.

St. Anthony then won the tournament with a 47 18 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

The Bullpups held a 10-4 opening quarter lead and led 35-6 at halftime.

B. Verdeyen tallied 19 for the winners while C. Bierman added eight.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Troxell and Stufflebeam with four each.

Stewardson-Strasburg finished third. St. Elmo/Brownstown was a 40-30 winner. SEB held a 16-13 halftime lead then had a 14-6 third quarter surge.

Schaub led the winners with 16 points while Troxell and Stufflebeam added nine each.

Stew-Stras was led by Weston Friese with 11.

Stew-Stras then played Ramsey for third place and was a 41-18 winner.

Stew-Stras stepped out to a 15-7 opening quarter lead and led 22-9 at halftime.

Friese again tallied 11 points to lead the winners.

At Troy

Effingham competed in the Troy Triad Shootout Saturday.

The Mustangs won 48-34 over Waterloo. Effingham held a 15-9 opening quarter lead and led 23-17 at halftime and then 42-18 going into the final period, holding Waterloo to only one third quarter point.

Effingham was led by Jenner Pals with 26 points and Carson Fox with 12.

Effingham then downed Jerseyville, 42-21.

The Mustangs held a 22-8 halftime lead and never looked back.

Pals again led the way with 18 points while Westin Hayes added nine.

At Marshall

Jasper County tallied two victories over Marshall, scoring over 40 points in both games Saturday.

Jasper County was a 44-33 winner in the seventh-grade game. Jasper County held a 15-5 opening quarter lead and led 24-17 at halftime. Jasper County had a 10-2 final period run.

Chase Kistner led in scoring with 16 points while Jacob Ferguson added 13 points and led in rebounds. Preston Harris was the top defender. The seventh-grade improved to 3-0.

In eighth-grade competition, Jasper County was  45-31 winner. Jasper County ripped out to an 18-6 opening quarter lead and led 30-10 at halftime.

Chance Mulvey and Eli Wolf tallied 14 points each to lead the winners. Maddox Horner was the top defender and Greyson Lingafelter was the top rebounder. Jasper County is 3-0.
