Effingham Sacred Heart downed Mulberry Grove in junior high boys basketball Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade contest, 48-20. Sacred Heart stepped out to a 19-9 first half lead and had a 29-11 second half.

Gabe Traub tallied 17 points to lead Sacred Heart while Bryce Hayes added nine.

In eighth-grade action, Sacred Heart had two big quarters in the second and third for a 45-35 victory over Mulberry Grove.

Freddie Jansen and Owen Schuette provided the one-two scoring punch with 18 and 12 points respectively.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed two victories over Sullivan in Monday evening competition.

The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 15-2 opening quarter lead in the seventh-grade game and tallied a 49-14 victory.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Kale Goeckner with 11 and Sam Probst with nine.

In eighth-grade play, T-town held a 19-8 halftime lead and went on for a 34-18 win.

The Shoes' Jake Probst scored 13 points to lead the way.

At Newton

Jasper County played host to Altamont and was a winner in both contests Tuesday.

Jasper County ripped out to a 22-7 opening quarter lead in the seventh-grade game and finished out with a 55-19 victory.

Cambell Ulm was the leading scorer with 20 points and the top defender. Hank Huber led in rebounds.

Altamont was led by Xavier Logue with 10 points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County picked up a 47-31 victory.

Maddox Horner led the way for the winners with 13 points while Eli Wolf and Ian Kessler tallied eight each. Wolf was the top defender while Mack Huber was the top rebounder.

Altamont was led by Zuber with seven points.

Jasper County improved to 2-0 in both seventh- and eighth-grade.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg and Pana Sacred Heart split victories Tuesday evening in the season opener.

Stew-Stras was a winner in the seventh-grade game, 41-30. Stew-Stras trailed 22-14 at halftime then had a 12-3 third period and a 15-4 final quarter run.

The winners were led by Weston Friese with 14 points.

In the eighth-grade game, Pana Sacred Heart stepped out to a 14-7 opening quarter lead and Stew-Stras trailed 30-20 going into the final period. The squad attempted a comeback but couldn't make up the deficit in a 39-32 loss.

Parker Duncan led the way for Stew-Stras with 18 points.
