EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville basketball will host a 2023-24 season tip-off event at Old Herald Brewery & Distillery in Collinsville on Wednesday, Sep. 27 from 5-7 p.m.

The event will offer a chance for season ticket holders and fans the chance to meet and greet the 2023-24 Cougar teams as they approach the upcoming season. The Voice of the Cougars Joe Pott will be on hand to conduct interviews with the head coaches and to introduce the players and coaching staffs.

Fans wearing SIUE gear will receive discounts on food and beverages throughout the event.

Old Herald Brewery & Distillery is a family-friendly restaurant and event space located at 115 E. Clay Street. Owned by SIUE alum Derik Reiser '93, Old Herald opened in 2019 in the longtime home of the Collinsville Herald newspaper. For more on Old Herald click here.

"As an alum of SIUE and fan of SIUE basketball, I am thrilled to host this preseason event at Old Herald," Reiser said. "We're excited to welcome fellow alumni and fans to Collinsville and to collaborate with the athletics department to generate excitement heading into the season."

Head men's basketball coach Brian Barone will enter 2023-24 with nine returners from last year's team that won 19 games. The Cougars are led by Collinsville native Ray'Sean Taylor, a First-Team All-OVC selection averaging 15.5 points per game last season.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Sam Quigley Smith, the women's basketball team returns five players that started at least 15 games a season ago. Sofie Lowis, Molly Sheehan, and Macy Silvey each hit 40 or more threes while KK Rodriguez is the team's leading returner in rebounds, assists, and steals.
