Altamont Activities Director Katie Lurkins said her resignation as girls varsity basketball coach was entirely her decision.

Lurkins, who had been varsity coach at Altamont since the 2013-2014 season, resigned at Tuesday night's school board meeting.

Katie said, "I love my job as activities director, and I loved coaching, but I couldn't give both positions the attention they require to do them right." She has three children, and her oldest played for her this past season. She has two sons, one in junior high and one in grade school.

Lurkins said she is excited since she will help choose her successor as varsity coach. Under Altamont's collective bargaining agreement, the coaching job will be advertised in-district first. She said her goal is to have a coaching recommendation ready for the May Board meeting.
